With Shark Week 2020 just around the corner (Sunday August 9th if you aren’t fanatics like us), we wanted to check out some of the best Snag-A-Slip marina destinations for swimming with sharks. Surprisingly enough, they’re not that hard to find. Check out our list here – only for the brave of heart!
Sharks get a bad reputation, but you probably swim with sharks more than you think! These (typically) gentle giants are fascinating to see up close, and if you want to get closer and more personal than through the aquarium glass, there are a few places you can swim with sharks in a controlled environment.
Nassau, Bahamas
Stuart Cove in Nassau is an awesome destination to see Carribean Reef Sharks! Extreme Shark Adventure takes guests into the water with experienced divers. Your first dive will be a free swim with sharks and the second will be watching the crew release bait. It is truly an unforgettable experience to have while in the crystal clear waters of Stuart Cove.

San Diego, California
La Jolla Cove is right off the coast of San Diego, California and is well known as a home to hundreds of Leopard sharks. The warm waters are the perfect location for these sharks to swim around and enjoy a vacation – along with tourists and travelers. Leopard sharks are actually very timid and shy and pose nearly no threat to humans, which makes them really fun swimming partners – though we don’t recommend feeding or touching them in any way. Morehead City, NC
On your next trip, visit the waters off of Morehead City, North Carolina. This city’s coastal waters are riddled with shipwrecks, making it the perfect destination for underwater ecosystems. The town offers chartered dives off the coast to check out the wrecks. If you’re lucky, you may even catch sight of a shark in the depths. Cancun, Mexico
Cancun is actually home to a variety of species of sharks, but perhaps the most exciting is the whale shark! Many charter diving tours bring visitors out to the ocean to swim with these massive creatures. Whale Shark Tour Cancun is the best in the area with experienced guides to take you out to meet the 40,000lbs sharks. It is truly a trip for the books that you have to try if docked in Cancun.
